2. After the Research Paper

After the Research Paper, I am humbled. The topic I was writing on was about smartphone use and how it causes anxiety, loneliness, and distractions when used too much. I realized that when writing this paper, I was doing exactly what I was arguing was a negative effect of smartphone overuse. I got very distracted. That resulted in my procrastination and me not being able to write enough to fulfill the page requirement. I was humbled as I realize that I need to not let my technology control me. I need to learn how to focus more on my school work or whatever task I'm performing without being distracted by technology.

The strategies that worked were that I got my sources together early before the due date, so it helped me write my paper with research to back it up. It helped that we had annotated bibliography due. I realize I need to have personal due dates for myself.

My goals for the next assignment are to start doing the assignment early. I am determined to have my paper finished at least one day before it is due, so I can look it over and make sure it's my best effort. I was very good at this in high school, so I know I can do it. I can be less distracted and more focused.

A highlight that I learned that I didn't expect was that I was basically writing to myself as the audience since I'm one of the people affected by smartphone overuse. I look at my smartphone more than I'd like to. I want to fix that. I will fix it! :)

  1. Savannah, this is awesome! I feel the same way with my assignment. I felt like I procrastinated too much and then ended up getting pretty stressed out. Your topic sounds super interesting! I would love to hear more about it. Great job :)

  2. I get very anxious when using my smartphone too much. I just had this girl freak out at me because I didn't respond to her texts fast enough. I admit I am very bad at responding to texts and calls, but that is because I don't like using my phone. I told her to calm down and not put so much stock into her phone relationships. She is glued to that thing!

  3. Isn't that the truth! I would get so much homework done so much faster without phone distractions. I need to regulate my phone use better.

    1. I would recommend playing music or something that stops you from doing other stuff on your phone, but still fulfills your internal desire to use it constantly. If you think "I'd like to look up cat videos but I don't want to stop this song" you're getting there.

  4. What a great, relatable topic. I do recognize that scrolling through my phone before bedtime is always a bad idea! Keeps me awake.

  5. This topic is perfect for my wife! She spends a ton of time on her phone and then complains to me later that she wasted time throughout the day. I think our phones are huge distractions, especially when they buzz at us every 10 minutes with some update that we MUST see.
